Customer extending Sales Area and Company Code

I have a question that is confusing me, I have a customer 1 who has been setup for sales area ZZ01/Z1/Z1. Now when I try to use this customer in sales order I get error customer not setup for company code ZZ10. By definition doesn't a sales ares belong to a company code? In this case the sales area above does belong to the company code. Is something not being extended properly? If so why would SAP allow this or is this normal behaviour?

thanks.

1. You can extend the customer under Tcode FD01 if the customer already in another company code. Enter first Account group, Customer number and the company code which you want to extend.

2. In normal system behavior, Whenever customers do business under one company code then all the business transactions goes under that company code for balance sheet purpose.

3. If the customer prefer to buy a product but it is not under that company code and it doesn't authorize to sell under that entity then customer will extend to new company code.
