Not able to create a universe when using nav. att. 0MATL_TYPE in the query

Dear experts,

We are having an issue when trying to create a universe over a BEx query which uses navigational attribute 0MATL_TYPE of 0MATERIAL (0MATERIAL__0MATL_TYPE).

No matter where do we insert this nav. attribute in the query (lines, columns, free characteristics...) that we are not able to create the universe. We receive a message when trying to create it such as "error without message"

We have other navigational attributes from several characteristics which are not giving us any problems in universes, just nav attributes 0MATL_TYPE and a Z characteristic (ZMATPR) which is the same as 0MATL_TYPE (it is defined the same way, not related).

Does any one have any clue on what could be the reason for this issue??

Thanks in advance for your interest!

Best regards!!!!

Cecilia

P.D: Sorry, forgot to say we are working with BW 3.5! Thus, BEx 3.x

Thanks again!

Hi Cecilia,

is the 0MATERIAL characteristic also included in your BW query?

Hi Stratos,

We don't have 0MATERIAL characteristic in our query at the moment, but when we had it it neither worked. Another point is (having or not 0MATERIAL in our query) that if we insert other navigational attributes from 0MATERIAL (and don't insert nav attr 0MATL_TYPE) the universe is correctly created. This just happens when 0MATL_TYPE nav attr is inserted in the query. Moreover, if we execute the query it works correctly, 0MATL_TYPE appears correctly and no error is given.

Nevertheless, thank you very much for your response!! If you any more ideas we will be very happy to hear them!

Hi Cecilia,

which version of BOBJ (incl. Service Packs and Fix Packs) are you using? What is the patch level of your BW system?

Hi Cecilia,

you should be at least at patch level 19 with your SAP BW system:

source: Supported Platforms BOBJ XI 3.0 integration Kit for SAP document

SAP BW 3.5, BASIS level 19, ABA level 19, BW level 19

Hi Stratos,

Thanks for your answer, but do you think that if we change to patch level 19 our problem would be solved? This issue is only occuring with one nav. attribute.

Nevertheless thaks for your interest.

Hi Cecilia,

well there must be a reason why only patch levels higher than 19 are supported. Seriously now, I would have recommend you to contact the support, since this behaviour should be traced. You do not use a supported version of the SAP BW server and this is in fact the first thing to hear from SAP BOBJ support. I would suggest to try the upgrade first. If this does not do the work for you then you should contact the SAP support.

It can also be the case that the problem has been solved in one of the available fix packs (or maybe in SP1). Keep in minde that bugs, which are never reported by customers, are not always documented in the public Fixed Issues lists, even if they are contained in a specific fix pack. The support has this kind of information and can help you find out if there is a related fix pack for your problem. But in order to try this, you have to upgrade to patch level 19 on the SAP BW side.
