I have a spare AIX machine
we run ECC6.0 and MaxDB
I want to restore my QA box onto this spare machine.
will it be possible to just restore a savevg of my QA box onto the spare machine
What implications are there and what must i be aware of
What process do i follow ??

Hi Andre,
I guess, you should have your UNIX admin do this for you. savevg is a good tool but with its limitations.
You may need to look at backend disk layout.
You can not track the progress.
It creates a single large file if I am not wrong. So restore is goin to be painfull if it fails.
I would rather use rsync to do backup/restore, It is very good tool. You can restart it if it fails & it will start from where you stopped it. I use this to copy my production system database (3 Tb ) to QA with this. It finishes in just 6-7 hours on a gigabit LAN.
Rsync is open source tool & you can find rpm packages to install on AIX.
Hope this helps.

Why don't you take a full backup of your DB and do a system copy instead?
