Table which gives all details of material groups created is T023.

A grouping of materials and services according to their characteristics.

You can use material groups to:

Limit the scope of analyses

Systematically search for material master records via matchcodes

When we don't have mateial master of particular mateial, for example consumables, here you can create PO with material description, material group and account assignment category.

HI,

The material group (base material group) is the level in the material group hierarchy which must be assigned directly to a material when it is created. It is defined across the corporate group and sub-divides the complete material assortment from a business management viewpoint.

Those material groups which themselves comprise material groups are called material group hierarchy levels. A hierarchy level can have one or more other hierarchy levels (material groups) assigned to it.

By structuring/linking material groups and material group hierarchy levels in a meaningful way you create the material group hierarchy.

In this step you can assign a material to an external material group, or to a material group that was created using externally-defined (non-SAP) structures.

u will get the settings under menu path:

SPRO > IMG > LOGISTIC GENERAL > MATERIAL MASTER > SETTINGS FOR KEY FIELDS > DEFINE MATERIAL GROUPS.

for service PO we have to assign the valuation class to material group under the menu path:

SPRO > IMG > MATERIAL MANAGEMENT > PURCHASING > MATERIAL MASTER > ENTRY AIDS FOR ITEMS WITHOUT A MATERIAL MASTER.

can assign a purchasing value key and a valuation class to a material group.

The assignment of a purchasing value key provides you with default values for reminder levels etc. in purchase order items without a material master record and without an info record.

The assignment of a valuation class to a material group enables the system to determine different accounts for the individual material groups.

Material group is used for the account determination..

it is also used to grp together the material which are used for a specific reason..

You can enter this when you dont maintain the material, so at that time sys asks you to enter the mrtl grp...

Internally material groups are attached to the valuation class which are then used for the auto account determination purpose...

hi,

valuation class depends upon material type. for example ROH-raw materilas. In raw materials also there may be different groups raw material 1, raw material 2 ... etc, which we can maintain as material groups. check t-code:OMSK

You can assign valuation class to material group in SPRO > Materials Management > Purchasing > Material master > Entry aids for items without a material master.

Material group ;

Material group is defined according to the usage or same application.

It is must when you procure the materials with account assignment (with out material master).

You can create inforecord with material group.

It is used in quantity contract

Used to get report.

Material group is a group of material of similar attributes. Maintaining material groups is depends upon client. Material group is used to view perticular reports. IN purcahase order we can make purcahse group mandatory field by field selection settings.

In addition to this with the help of material group you can do account determination in case of non-stock direct cosumption procurement (account assignment category + material group).
