Just wanted to know is there any real restriction on the number of fields that can be actually added to the main table in the MDM repository. Currently we have about 120 odd fields but if we look at the entire repository including all the lookup tables there are a little more than 250 fields.
If no restriction on the actual number is there a limit after which the performance gets affected?
Hi MDM User,
The MDM repository sits on a Database below and there is no such strict restrictions on the number of fields created in the repository
Howvever you need to keep in mind that the modelling of the tables and fields is the most important step before actually working with the master data.
The designing of the repository has direct impact on the performance and so not just the number of fields but also the properties of each is important for keeping the performance high in mdm.
It is always suggested that the number of fields as well as records in MDM must be alwys more in the products table as compared to teh lookup.
If you take care of these few requirents then your performance will be really good throughout the working of mdm.
You can refer few of the below links which will give you an insights on this:

Hope It Helped

There is no limit to the number of fields in MDM maintable or the look-up table for that. We have around 800 fields combined in both Main table and Look-up tables and also there is complex nested structure. However the performance is still decent enough. You need to first of all refer the sizing guide, whose link you can refer in the above posts.
Also, carefully plan out the data modeling in order to better the performance. There are some field properties in Console such as Sotable, keyword etc, which impact the performance. Set these properties as Yes only when absolutley required. It will better your performance.
Hope this info helps.

Hi,
There is no defined limit on the number of fields that can be used.
Yes, you need to be careful during the Data modelling, so that the performance of the system is not affected.
Please refer the below for more on performance:

Hope it helps.
Thank you,

Hi,
There is no such limit specified on the number of fields. As far as performance is concerned it completely depends on the hardware you are using. If you follow the SAP guidelines like Min 4GB RAM etc you will get smooth functioning of MDM. But there are certain fileds like Text Large which affects the loading time of the repository so its better to use them if required.
Check the MDM Sizing guide.
