Hi Maria,

Advantage of external number

Firstly you can give name or number which is easy to remember by user.

Second you can use alphabets and number for naming.

Disadvantage of external number

You have to guess all time you create material master.

Advantage of internal number

System will give the next number available so you don't need to take time to think about naming convention.

Disadvantage of internal number

You can only have number(digits) as material master number.

Hi

Internal- need to have pre_selected ranges for the materials , where you will get all the materials for a particular material type having a common number range with small difference in the last digits. This helps in reporting as you can enter the from to ranges and extract all kinds of report. This has a limitation as we will notbe able to identify from the code as what kind of material or which prodn stage or any other status from the code, unless we run the Txn and view it in MM03 or MM60 or any other code.

Here system automatically generates the number during Material master creation

External- We need to maintain the number manually during material creation. The benefit we can have the alphanumeric number for identifying the material independtly for each material type and the stage or location it is availble. Much easire to handle and interact based upn the codes.

hi,

there is no special advatages.

Internal number range--system assigns a number to the material .

External number range- user has to assign the numer to that material. that is code of that material.

SPRO settings need to be done

hi,

internal number assignment

In this case, a number within the number range interval allowed is assigned by the SAP R/3 System.

*external number assignment*

Here, the user assigns a number within the number range interval allowed. You can define the intervals for external number assignment numerically and alphanumerically.
