how to check a updated support package is correct or any inconsistacy is there....
i have updated the 159 to 179 level .
Hi Vasu,
Just check the same with disp+work -v at os level.
Or you can check the same with SAPOSCOL status, if you have updated the SAPOSCOL at the same time.

Hi,
Kernel:-
The kernel is the central component of the database system. The kernel manages access to the permanently stored data in a database instance and processes the SQL statements; for liveCache database instances, it processes the OMS procedures.
To start a database instance, the kernel of the database system is started for the specific database name. While the database is running, the kernel includes several different operating system threads.
The database system is delivered with several different kernel variants.
The kernel is platform dependent. In kernel upgrade there are two set of files one is DB independent (DW,ENQ, ENS, SAPOSCOL etc ) & another one is DB specific both are platform dependent.
Support Packages:-
SAP delivers various types of program corrections with Support Packages as part of the software maintenance. Support Packages automatically correct a whole range of errors by downloading corrections into the SAP System. Two categories of Support Packages are available: ABAP Support Packages and Java Support Packages.
ABAP Support Packages :- ABAP Support Packages contain corrections and updates for the ABAP components of the SAP system that were performed up to a certain point in time. Each Support Package is based on the previous one.
Java Support Packages :- Java Support Packages contain corrections and updates to Java components. They are delivered in the form of Software Component Archives (SCA). Unlike ABAP Support Packages, Java Support Packages always contain the complete version of the Development Components for the application. You therefore need to apply the latest Support Package only. If there are dependencies with other Java Support Packages, these are specified in an SAP Note.
As of SAP NetWeaver 2004s, you can apply Java Support Packages using the Java Support Package Manager (JSPM). For more information on JSPM, refer to the quick link service.sap.com/JSPM.
Add-On Support Packages :-Refer to SAP Note 160168 .
Conflict Resolution Transports (CRT):- Refer to SAP Note 53902.
Support Package Stacks:- A Support Package Stack is a set of Support Packages and patches for a specific product version that must be used in the specific combination.
For more information on Support Package Stacks, refer to the link service.sap.com/sp-stacks.
DBSL means Database Library patch
Hope this helps.

hmm kernel !
sm51-> release notes should show the upgraded level
at os level, if unix flovour, then as sidadm,
run, disp+work -v
it should also show the current upgraded version
in SAP, run sick to check any inconsistency and check st22, sm21 for one or 2 days if any specific errors comes.
thanks
