Hi,

I am facing a problem which is oracle interim patches of oracle 9.2.0.8.

When I performed opatch apply, I get the message as below:

OPatch encounters the following issues during file patching:

2. ultrasearch_midtier.jar

Replying 'Y' will terminate the patch installation immediately. It WILL NOT restore any updates that have been performed to this point. It WILL NOT update the inventory.

Replying 'N' will update the inventory showing the patch has been applied.

NOTE: After replying either 'Y' or 'N' it is critical to review:

Metalink Note 312767.1 How to rollback a failed Interim patch installation.

Do you want to STOP?

If I choose N, I get opatch verification fail which is opatch failed.

After that I enter opatch lsinventory to check the opatch result, I get this:

So it means I have successfully patching the interim patches to the system???

Kindly please help.

Thanks,

Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Can we get the output from "opatch lsinventory" ? I'm curious if you might have some errors in the installation of previous one-off patches or maybe with your oraInst.loc file.

For example, if you see:

Patch 5961654 : applied on Thu Feb 12 15:45:13 CST 2009

Created on

Bugs fixed:

5961654

  • Warning: no filemap entries available.

Check out metalink document:

Nancy,

Could we get a look at the patch log?

/oracle_origlog/oracle/ID1/920_32/.patch_storage/<patch ID>/*.log

It should be something like...

/oracle_origlog/oracle/ID1/920_32/.patch_storage/8290549/*.log

Do you see anything obvious in there?

You might double-check that your version of OPatch is compatible with that CPU.

I forgot the most obvious question.. what OS are you running?

Hi Rich,

Sorry for the late reply.

I can read this log there:

There are 13 issues patching Java library in Oracle Home.

FILE PROBLEM: some files are not patched.

OPATCH_JAVA_ERROR: Patch was not successfully applied.

Verification of the patch failed.

ERROR: OPatch failed as verification of the patch failed.

This is running on SUSE linux 9

Thanks a lot.

Hi Nancy,

I'm stumped. It doesn't appear to be anything obvious. Are you experiencing any noticible loss of service? Are all the objects listed in dba_objects VALID that you would expect to be valid? Are all the items in dba_registry valid?

I'd recommend opening an SR with Oracle Support. I've found a posting on Metalink that lists that error as benign but this Doc(753348.1) is specific to applying 7608318, CPUJan2009 Application Server 10.1.2.2 Oracle Fusion Middleware. A file doesn't exist and Oracle knows and says it's ok.

But I wouldn't take that chance with your DB! Open an SR!

Have you tried to install this patch on another DB? If not, can you? If so, same problem? Obviously not a production DB though!

Maybe now is a good time to go to Oracle 10.2.0.4 and it's 30+ one-off patches?

Best of luck. I'm curious what the resolution will be!

Rich

OK, I will try oracle 10.0.2.4 then. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help, appreciate it.

Is it maybe possible that e. g. enterprise manager is still running? Or iSQL?

Hi Markus,

How can i check whether Enterprise Manager or iSQL is running?

Thanks a lot in advance.

DB Console should be..

emctl status

iSQLPLUS should be..

isqlplusctl stop

If you look in $ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini you can see whether DB Console or iSQLPlus are even installed.

[oracle:<ROWDEV > /oracle] cat $ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini

iSQL*Plus HTTP port number =5560

iSQL*Plus HTTP port number =5561
