Hello Friends,

I want to install SAP Solution Manager 7.0 with Oracle 10g on SUSE Linux 10.0.

But, while starting the Installation i am getting following Errors.

Starting Oracle Universal Installer...

I am starting the Oracle 10g Installation within orasm7 User which is a member of dba, users, disk groups.

The directories which are created upon starting the Oracle Installation in /tmp directory are having the situations as followed:

drwxr-xr-x 3 orasm7 dba 128 2009-04-21 18:41 OraInstall2009-04-21_06-41-14PM

The Oracle Installation log is as follwoed:

I have set DISPLAY variable in this way before starting Installation:

DISPLAY=$HOSTNAME:0.0

export DISPLAY

I tried to search the solution over the internet for this kind of problem, but i am not able to find its solution. Even i tried to start the Orale installation using this parameter: ./runInstaller ignoreSysPrereqs, but still it is giving the same unexpected error.

I have a doubt on File/Directory permissions which are created for Installation in /tmp. The umask setiing of the system is 0022.

Please, help me for this issue.

Thanks & Regards,

Bhavik G. Shroff

Be aware that you need to do the installation using "RUNINSTALLER (in capitals) in the SAP subdirectory of Disk1 in the staging area, do not use the manual "runInstaller".

Can try to set the temp directory to a different "normal" one, not tagged as temp:

mkdir /tempora
chmod 777 /tempora
export TEMP=/tempora
export TMP=/tempora
cd /oracle/stage/102_64/Disk1/SAP
./RUNINSTALLER

Hi Markus,

How are you ?

Thank you very much for your reply.

I was executing wrong runInstaller file. RUNINSTALLER is right file for starting the execution. But still i am facing the same error, which is as followed.

I must admit, I have no clue what is happening on your system.

Is there anything in the logfiles in the oraInst directory (e. g. OraInstall2009-04-22_05-25-26PM)?

Which filesystem did you use for /tmp and /home?

And please post the output of the following commands:

Hi Markus,

The FileSystem of /tmp and /home is reiserfs , which is New Linux Native File System in SUSE Linux 10.

Well.. ReiserFS has limitations, Oracle develops and tests on EXT3 (which I would definitely prefer over ReiserFS).

See

Note 914177 - File system reiserfs Oracle parameter filesystemio_options

Note 999524 - Oracle 10.2 platform support for Async IO

Ok - I wanted to make sure you're using the correct architecture

Can you execute that file? It seems that the installer is failing with that. Try

/home/MyData/51031676/database/install/unzip -v

Hi Markus,

Somewhat We caught the problem. I copied the source from NTFS file System to Linux File System, some days ago. May be some files were not copied properly.

SHROFF:~ # su - orasm7
orasm7@SHROFF:~> /home/MyData/51031676/database/install/unzip ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre
/1.4.2.0.8/1/DataFiles/\*.jar -d /tmp/OraInstall2009-04-22_07-25-05PM/
unzip: cannot find ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.4.2.0.8/1/DataFiles/*.jar, ../stage/Components
/oracle.swd.jre/1.4.2.0.8/1/DataFiles/*.jar.zip or ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.4.2.0.8/1/DataFiles
/*.jar.ZIP.

No zipfiles found.

Let see If this is the problem , then The Problem is solved. But, untill i got the initial screen of OUI, we cann't say it.

That is possible - yes.

You can use the RDBMS DVDs and unpack the three/four .SAR files using

SAPCAR -xvf <filename>

instead of copying them using CIFS/SMB.

I also suggest to install the newest service pack for SLES 10 (SP2).

Hi Markus,

The RDBMS Source was extracted on NTFS FileSystem, which was mounted saperately. I copied them on Linux Native Filesystem for a purpose.

The actual problem was different. Some JAR files was not copied at this location ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.4.2.0.8/1/DataFiles/ and were missing ...

After correcting this problem ... the OUInstaller Scren come up lastly. Then i did some recommended chages to Kernel Parameters which was showing "Failed" status during installation and installation was completed successfully in standard way.

Then Oralce Patching was carried out in the same way and Oracle Side work was completed, y'day.

Right now , the SAP System installation is running good..

Thanks for your valuable help.
