Hi all,

Can anyone please brief me the difference between, Planning Version and Model Name ?

Also please let me know how to create both. . .

Hi,

Models are the basis for planning. The Masterdata that is assigned to the model is considered while planning

Versions are created under Models. multiple versions can be assigned to the same model. These have different data sets that are used for simulating various scenarios.

Version XYZ and PQR can be assigned to model ABC. They will use the same Masterdata (which is assigned to ABC) but can use different data (Sales history for eg). the results of the planning in different versions will vary accordingly

you can have multiple models(with different masterdata) and multiple versions under it. Integreation to R3 and between different Functionalities in SCM will use whats under the active model and Active version (typically 000)]

A version has unique value. It means you can have a version 010 tied to one model say ABC only. You can not create another version 010 tied to another model DEF. For ease of remembering models are where the master data is attached while version is where transaction data is attached. However master data can be version specific especially the capacity data for Resource Master.

See this link for planning version dependent master data.

Also version contains some basic data relevant for planning (since transaction data is tied to it) like is SNP or PPDS planning is to be carried out in the version. If planned orders can be created w/o source of supply, PPDS Horizon etc.

You can also copy data between planning versions. For more on this look at this link.

Thanks

Hi Prasad,

1) Model in Supply Chain Network

The supply chain model is the basis for all SCM planning functions. It covers all areas of the network chain from the supplier's supplier to the customer's customer. The model can be determined by importing the relevant data objects from source systems into SCM, or it can be created and maintained solely in SCM. The Supply Chain Engineer (SCE) is SCM's modeling tool. The supply chain model includes the following entities:

a) Locations

b) Transportation lanes

c) Products

d) Resources

e) Production process models

Dependencies

Master data from external sources flows into the active SCM model (model 000). There can be other models in SCM, but none of the others receives data from external systems. A model can have several different versions which can be used for simulation purposes, but only model 000 and version 000 are active.

2) Version Definition

A selection of planning data for a supply chain model. While the supply chain model only contains master data, the planning version also contains transaction data.

Use

It is possible to create different planning versions of each supply chain model for simulation purposes. However, at any point in time, only one model and one of its versions is active. The active model and the active version are both labelled 000.

PP-APO Consultant,

"Model" is a supply chain model (that is supply chain mater data, namely: locations, transportation lanes, products, resources, PPMs). Master data from external sources (like R/3) flows into the active SCM model (model 000).

Planning versions relate to transactional data & are used for various data simulations.

A model can have several different versions which can be used for simulation purposes, but only model 000 and version 000 are active.

You can create both using T-code /SAPAPO/MVM.

Hi,

Can i say that, in a Tree Structure,

Model Name comes first and then Planning Version. Also there can be one or more planning version to a same Model Name.. . .

Right ?

Thanks for your input. . .

Yes, you are right.

You would like to have multiple simulations of transactional data with same set of supply chain model (master) data. That's how it is.
