MMAM, Gives error material Type can not be changed

MM Gurus, Please advise,

On trying to change the Material type from HALB to DIEN system gives the following error message,

"Change Material Type

The material type cannot be changed.

The reasons for this are:

The new material type is not defined for maintenance of QM data.

Inspection setups (inspection types) already exist for this material

The new material type requires that all the following data

for the mat. is first archived and deleted:

Data per Whse Number (MLGN)"

Is it possible to change material type from HALB to DIEN , I realise that they belong to different Item categoury group/ Account cat Reference.

However there is no Open PO/stock/open line items against this vendor.

Hi Rucchi,

When the message you get is:

The material type cannot be changed.

The reasons for this are:

The new material type is not defined for maintenance of QM data.

Inspection setups (inspection types) already exist for this material

The new material type requires that all the following data

for the mat. is first archived and deleted:

Data per Whse Number (MLGN)

You must either

1) Solve the reasons for not letting changing the material type, therefore archiving the MLGN segment

2) Create a new (different) material.

Sometimes the reason for not letting changing the material type is an open PO, but this is not the case.

Franck

You are changing a Semi Finished Good to a Service.

The semi FG has quality data defined (like inspection types) created. This is not possible for Service. This is one inconsistency.

The second one is that Warehouse views have been created. Again, this is not possible for Service.

In this instance it would be better to create a completely new material instead of changing material type.

Hope this answers,
