Hi
In rare cases (such as space problems in the file system), it can become necessary to delete the statistics file of an SAP instance. In this case, you can either delete the file for dialog step statistics, STAT, or the application statistics file ASTAT for an instance. If you are working with separate statistics files for every hour (Profile parameter stat/max_files > 0), all statistics files are deleted

try decresing number of stat file using this parameter in rz10
stat/max_files this will decrease number of .dat files in work directory

If you have enviornment ABAP + JAVA then this will be created with automatically
at the following locaiton.
/usr/sap/SID/INSTANCE/j2ee/cluster/server0/log/archive/.%2Flog%...........
But this happand usually if you have XI enviornment. So create the os level script to find the file from above location and delete them automatically

There should not be any .dat files in the work directory. How is the full name of a file? Can please try to find out where these files come from? It might be a customer developed abap program.

Hi,
If it is abap+java installation then check the j2ee/cluster/server0 folder generally the archive log folder is the cause, it writes lots of logs. Also check if any one has activated any traces?
