NT: Dispatcher in status 'Yellow',SAP system

Former Member

Hi experts,

After change of kernel version from original is yellow status disp+work in MMC console.

It has no impact on SAP running, but in MMC queue of work processes is anavailable.

OS: MS Windows Server 2003

SP2

SAP: ECC6

I tried to change some version of kernel 133,175,185 and problem still accured.

I followed the steps from note number 72248:

"Variances between start-up profile and instance profile in relation to the following parameters can lead to the described situation:

rdisp/mshost => <hostname> (is set in default.pfl)

rdisp/msserv => sapms$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)

rdisp/myname => $(SAPLOCALHOST)_$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)_$$

for Release 4.5B and higher in addition:

rdisp/elem_per_queue = 2000

rdisp/myname and rdisp/msserv are determined dynamically and should not be set in one of the profiles. You can check the parameter values between the profiles simply by using

sappfpar.exe pf=<PATH>\<PROFILE>

Call SAPPFPAR once with the instance profile and once with the start profile and compare the values for:

rdisp/mshost

rdisp/msserv

rdisp/myname

rdisp/elem_per_queue

The default .pfl msut not be tested because this is always loaded automatically from SAPPFPAR from the transported directory <PATH>."

But problem still occured.

Thank you form help.

did you try doing what I said in my ealrier post,I am very sure your issue will get resolved

otherwise post dev_w0 log files

Hi Jakub,

1. if rdisp/elem_per_queue parameter is set in the instance profile, check if the same value is set in default profile or not. if not set it in default and restart.

2. if the above parameter is already set

In windows, for kernel upgrade, its required only to update the kenel inside the NTAMD64/IA64 folder... eg. usr/sap/SID/sys/exe/uc/ntamd64. when sap starts next time sapcpe copies the updated exe files to other instance specific exe folders if exists.

now if you have followed the above process, check for 3rd option.

3. Stop SAP in MMC, then go to Start > run > services.msc. here stop the SAP<SID>_<nr> service. start it again (right click - start). Start SAP in MMC.

Hope this solves the problem.

Regards,

Debasis.

Just for your information,in each and every dev_disp you will see this message,I have seen this in numerous SAP systems and this generally occur in Windows system

so I am sure this is not the issue

Hi Debasis,

The parameter rdisp/elem_per_queue is set in instance profile and default profile too. Both has the same defaul value 2000.

The kernel was copied into directories:

\usr\sap\RD4\DVEBMGS00\exe and \usr\sap\RD4\SYS\exe\nuc\NTI386.

The DIR_EXECUTABLE is set to \usr\sap\RD4\DVEBMGS00\exe.

Here is trace from dev_w0:

trc file: "dev_w0", trc level: 1, release: "700"

Hi Jakub,

Stop SAP in MMC, then go to Start > run > services.msc. Stop all the SAP<SID>_<nr> services. start services again (right click - start). Start SAP in MMC.

Let me know if it works or not.

Regards,

Debasis.

Hi Borner,

First please create a new discussion and provide the error log files(dev_w0 & dev_disp) as well. You also need to share your system details.

Thanks,

Gaurav

Generally, you should only (manually) copy the new kernel to the usr\sap\RD4\SYS\exe\nuc\NTI386 folder.  The other one will copy what it needs during the start of the instance.  It is very rare, that a manual copy to the instance folder is necessary.

I agree with your assessment, that restarting the services is probably what hasn't happened yet in this kernel update.  I just want to add, that this can be done right from the mmc.  Just right-click on the instance, then select "All Tasks --> Restart Service".

Generally, a kernel patch for Windows systems should always be done with these steps:

  1. Unpack new kernel to the SYS\exe\<uc or nuc>\<hardware> folder.
  2. Restart all instances.
  3. Shut down all instances.
  4. Restart all services.
  5. Start all instances.

Hi

when you update the kernel it has to be done in 2 directories as executables are present in 2 directories

it says be

usr/sap/SID/sys/run/exe

and usr/sap/SID/DVE*/...../exe

just find these 2 exe directories and out the executables in both of them and it should start fine
