Hello Experts,
What are the differences between Technical System & Business System in SAP PI??Why we need to create Technical & Business Systems??
Technical system is the representation of the physical system. Like ,It has an IP Address to track.
Business system is the name that we give to a technical system.
For example an SAP system with IP 123.345.56.67is used to store the HR data of a organisation.
Then we should create a technical system for that PHYSICAL system.
and you call it with a Logical name, say HR_DATA ..This is the business system. This way you are abstracting the technicalities of the system..
Tomorrow, if the organization replaces the SAP system with an Oracle system(Which obvisouly has a new IP address), then a new technical system is to be created, but the business system still remains the same..Hope this example helps you understand the concept of TS and BS.
Regards,
Ravi

Hi Ashley!
To say it in simple words:
The technical system represents the "technology" or "server" level of a system. On a technical system Software Products and Software Components are installed (SLD).
Business Systems are one or more logical systems sitting on top of a technical system.
In case of SAP systems a physical SAP System (with one SAPSID) is represented by a Technical System in SLD while the clients (and logical systems) of such a SAP system are represented by Business Systems (one for each client/logical system).
I know there are much more differences and explanations, but to get a first idea of the differences and purposes I hope these few words are enough for you ....
The most important part for PI are the business systems.

Volker

Very clearly mentioned in following link, both the difference and the purpose
