Hi,
Is it correct that sap doesn't take already delivered "serial numbers" into account while creating a delivery document with reference to a sales document ?
example :
1. sales order with 5 pieces and serial number managed material.
sernr in sales order : 1001,1002,1003,1004,1005
2.first delivery of 3 pieces, delivery created from sales order.
sernr in delivery : 1001,1002,1003
3.second delivery of 2 pieces, delivery created from sales order
sernr in delivery : 1001,1002
While it shoud be : 1004,1005
Shouldn't it be kind of logical that sap automatically determines the correct serial numbers. It shouldn't be that difficult as the status of the serial numbers is managed ? Or am i just talking nonsense ?
Does anybody has a solution for this ? (copy control, customizing, user exit ...) Can't find anything ?
with regards
Hi Herman,
This funny behaviour is actually standard. The reason for this is that there are some business processes which require the possibility to assign the same serial number twice or several times e.g. in consignment processing.
One option is to by creating a customer specific status which stops the assignment to a second delivery.
Another option is in transaction BS22: Double click on the I0186 (Assigned in delivery note), and then choose the transaction code PMS3 (Delivery note assignment). Here you can change the status to Forbidden. Of course, since this table is SAP standard, it be not advised to change it.
Hope this helps you,
Regards
Nikhilesh

Hi Herman,
Yes you are right: you have to use the equipment status. The solution is given in SAP Note 52058:
a) More careful observation of the warnings during a serial number assignment by the user
or
b) Definition of an user status profile which prevents serial numbers with status EKUN or ELIE being included in another sales order or delivery. Assignment of the user status profile via equipment category together with the serial number profile. (Possibly problems during returns processing, management of consignment stocks and returnable packaging processing).

Herman Timmermans,
Serial Numbers are basically used for tracking purpose. Yes, we can't use the serial no. those were assigned to the material , sine it will not appear in the list that you will generate for those materials in IQ02 tcode.
Execute Tcode IQ02 by just entering the material, the serial no generation is unique. so no two serial nos will be same. Once that serial no is used are attached to material and the process is complete then the serial no will not be found in the generated list.
SAP Generates serial nos. for his you will have to create a serial no profile assign it to the material Please go through the path and check
IMG --> LE --> Shipping --> Basic Shipping Functions --> Serial nos.
it is also avialable in Img --> sd --> BF --> Serial nos
