Changing Weight Unit

Dear All,

At the moment, we have maintained KG as the weight unit in basic view 1 of material master. Due to business requirements, we are thinking about changing it to grams.

What are the impacts of doing so?

How will it affect open deliveries and Sales orders?

Any other things we need to be careful about?

Regards,

Hi Vijay,

If you change the weight units to grams, the weight unit in the delivery header will be defaulted to grams.

Are you sure you want to do that?

In general I recommend by customers (I am a Consultant) to use KG as the default weight unit. Seems to be a good compromise and makes the lists of deliveries look nice (92.123,12 KG is easier to read than 92.123.122,33 G).

Best Regards,

Franck

Hi Franck,

The business of the client is such that grams is more appropriate for most of the materials as the items are very light.

Are there any other factors to be considered before changing it?

Not that I am aware of. IMHO it is not a critical field.

Hi Vijay,

This is a very good decision. The base UoM should always be the smallest. For the requirements to make the change, go thru SAP Note 30656. It gives the required information in detail. Important thing is that there should not be any stocks.

Hope this helps,

Hi Nikhilesh,

Thanks for the response.

But I am referring to weight unit (GEWEI) and not the base unit of measure.

Vijay
