Hi,
I can see that there is "no freespace in file" in my DATA1, DATA2 and DATA3 files in my BW server. It shows Red in DBACOCKPIT.
1) Should I create a new datafile BWXDATA4 ?
2) Or, Should I increase the size of the existing DATA1, DATA2, DATA3 files?
Can some one please advise?
Environment is Netweaver 7.0 on Windiws 2003 / MS SQL 2005
Thanks!
Hi,
As you can see from the 2 first answers : the real answer is : it depends from your specific needs and confifguration.
I can just tell that the best practice with SQL Server is to have one data file per cpu.
But on 4 cpus quadricore servers I don't put more than 8 files...

Olivier

Hello Jim
Refer to

This will help you understand things better
and I would still say just increase the space of the data file and not add a new file

Hi,
Create a new datafile DATA4 rather then increasing the datafile size.
because the datafiles should not be heavy there is lot of scope to reduce the performance of the system and big datafiles can create lot of issues while restoring to other systems as well.
there is no such restrictions to create new datafiles, so i will prefer creating new datafile instead of increasing the datafiles size.

Increase the size of data files rather than adding a new data file
