Hi Guys,
I have a question regarding Storage Location Determination.
It is determined by Shipping PointPlantShipping Condition.
1. These 3 needs need to be unique in order to assign Storage Location? Why?
2. If once set, when we create Sales Order, are we able to manually change the Storage Location? Would there be any impact?
Please advise.
Hi,
As you know There is a concept of mapping Table in SAP. So this is one of them.
Shipping Point determination is one of the Mapping table.
SAP wants the process to be more automated. I.e the user should enter minimum information when a business document is created.
That is the reason why the user needs to enter only the SP and material when a SO is created and the rest like Document type, Sales Org, DIST CHan , DIV can be defaulted by using transaction variants.
if you want to automate the process and to be keep the process free from ERROR, Mapping table concept is used.
Once the Customer and material is entered, the system finds which is the plant to be used, Again plant determination is used.
Once plant is determined Shipping point is determined.
once shipping point is determined and also the plant then Picking location is determined.
Any number of combination can be maintained for Picking location determination only if Storage condtion is changing.
it is not possible to change the SLOC in SO, the only method is to change the shipping point then SLOC will also change based on the determination of Picking location table.

Saravanand Naiker,
1. Since, Picking has to be done perfectly or has to be carried out correctly from that particular storage location of that Plant through the appropriate shipping point assigned.
2. Since, we carry for all combinations of shipping conditions , plants and shipping points. Manual change will not affect the order system will check for the avaialbility of the materials in that particular storage location. If Plant and shipping point exists for this combination then it will accept the change.
That's why when we are using more plants and more storage locations we try to enter it manually during delivery process.

Location? Would there be any impact?
Yes you can change the storage location manually in sale order and do PGI provided stock is made available in that storage location which normally wont happen.
As you would be aware for FG items, one storage location would be defined and production people while making production entry, transfer the stock to this unrestricted storage location

Hi
These three needs to be unique Why?
This means this combination needs to be unique means for a shipping point 1000 ,plant 1002 and storage conditions 01 (for this combination ) storage location can either as 1002 or 1003
You can input only 1002 or 1003 as storage location in OVL3 but not both togeher to have choices in determination tables
System can determine only one
In the delivery manually if you want to change that can be done
Storage location will not come in sales order
It is determined in the delivery thro the rule MALA assigned in delivery doc type in OVLK
The rule mala has to be assigned to delivery type in t code OVLQ
The settings for MALA is maintained in OVL3
