Hello Venu

by which user, you are trying to start saposcol ?

make sure that /usr/sap/tmp exists and check the permisstion/owner of dev_coll.tmp in it and also the owner of /usr/sap/tmp dir

and check owner/permission of saposcol exe in /sapmnt/SID/exe, may be it should have s-bit permissions

try to consider these Notes

Note 1294308 - saposcol: Access authorization of log file dev_coll

Note 726094 - Starting SAPOSCOL without root authorization

SAP Note 548699 - FAQ: OS collector SAPOSCOL

thanks

-rw-r----- 1 smdadm sapsys Apr 08 08:35 dev_coll.tmp

Hello Venu

Are you having more than one SAP instances on this host ?

As seen by owners (smdadm and hrpadm) of two files:

-rw-r----- 1 smdadm sapsys Apr 08 08:35 dev_coll.tmp

saposcol owner and permissions as...

-rwsr-x--- 1 hrpadm sapsys May 01 2008 saposcol

so in which exe directory you are looking for saposcol exe ? i mean which SID ?

if SMD is also there a SAP instance on your host, then what is the owner/permission of that saposcol exe

ok, now as per Note 726094 - Starting SAPOSCOL without root authorization, remove all three files dev_coll, dev_coll.tmp and coll.put but keep a backup of these 3 files, say you can save them in the same directory with names like dev_coll_bkp...

and then start saposcol with user sidadm which is the owner of saposcol exe

and then start saposcol

thanks

Hi Bhudev,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes,there are two <sid>s,but only one exe and the owner and the permissions are as below

rwsr-x--- 1 hrpadm sapsys May 01 2008 saposcol

and, I could be able to understand your point

*******************************************************************************************

"and then start saposcol with user sidadm which is the owner of saposcol exe

and then start saposcol"

*****************************************************************************************

I would be very thankful to you if you can eloborate and help me fix the issue.

It is a bit important as it is the problem with PRD server

Hi,

It's been several years but we had a similar problem with failover. I remeber doing somthing in the startsap script to do with

set_sapdbhost to look at the instance profile to determine the DBHOST which will resolve against the hostname and not the failover package..

I will see if I can did up my notes...
