Value mapping in ABAP Versus ID

Hi Gurus,

As Value mapping can be done using ABAP mapping and Also in Integration Directory...

Can Any one tell me what is the exact difference Between these.....

hi,

in my opinion there is hudge difference between using

standard value mapping and mapping in abap mapping

- standard value mapping is very strick and does not allow

to have many to one mappings (which is very often the case)

- standard value mappings offers a limited sets of actions you can perform

to update the data (value mapping replication) which

is not always convinient to use

I try not to use value mappings as much as I can

as there are many other ways (like abap mappings) to do

simple, nice and easy to maintain value mappings

Hi Michael,

One more thing ..

If we use Value mapping in ID , we have no option to transport from one landscape to another , but in case of abap mapping transportationis easy.

If the value list is more to be mapped , hope we can use in ABAP mapping which will save form rework in another landscape

Srini, if you have defined Value mapping groups, then you can transport these groups as you transport any other ID object while selecting Individual Object.

Hi

As for me there is would be no difference, only thing when there is a frequent change / updation of these value needs code change in ABAP which has to undergo transport.

But ID you can just add and mainatance is easy and more in client place he can have the fisebility to change in ID which iks lot more easy to write in code.
