Dear Gurus
I am planning to install ECC 5.0 on linux, while installing, Tthe GUI screen getting crashed after 2-3 minutes (after entering SID and instance number). The message says ( guiengine: no GUI connected; waiting for a connection on host host1.domain.com ............)..I set JAVA_HOME and DISPLAY variable also , and xclock displaying Clock.
But why Gui screen getting crashed..
I suspects little on java version which is there in the OS by default...
Q1. i want to know which linux i am using?
Q2. which java/JDK do i need to install on to my server.
Q3. i could not able to install j2sdk-1_4_2_12-linux-i586.rpm on this machine.
These are the command values which i got from the OS level

hi,
It's about your Java version. You cannot use Java from GNU (GIJ).
Use java from SUN. Download and extract it. No need to install.
Download from http://java.sun.com

same problem continues after installing the IBM java IBMJava2-amd64-142 (13)

I would not call sapinst from the directory where it resides but as absolute path from a separate directory. Try the following:
