Step for setting up Status management for Sales order

Hi Experts,

I want to add user status to Sale Orders, say pending and released. when the status is pending, further documents can not be created for the order. I know that I need to create a status profile using BS02, and I tried that, seems doesnot work, could any tell the steps to config this?

IMG-->Sales and Distribution --> Sales --> Sales Documents --> Define and assign Status Profiles.
