Move into SAP XI from Testing background

Hi

I am currently working as a Test engineer, i have 4 years exp in testing. i have decent knowledge of Java.i want to move into SAP. can anyone suggest me how to go about. i have done some searching and found out that it is desirable to learn abap and java to get into XI. please give me an idea as of how to go about learning.

I have following questions

1) Since i am new to SAP, where should i start?

2) there are lot resources in sdn.sap(thanks to all you guys). is there a sequential order which would spped up the learning curve

3)i heard there are some imp parts of ABAP which one has to learn before learning XI. can anybody tell me the details so that i can quickly learn.

Hi,

Knowledge of ABAP is not that much necessary but yes you certainly need to know the basics of SAP and also other things like IDocs, RFCs and other terminology. Having ABAP knowledge surely helps as you already understand business to an extent. ABAP is usually required when you need to write mapping explicitly in ABAP, need to customize something or for ABAP proxies. Most of the times it is taken care by the ABAP Developers. Once you will start working in SAP you will get familiar with ABAP also as it is goes hand in hand with Java.

To start with on XI I would recommend you to first get familiar with SAP and then go ahead with TBIT stuff for XI. It is also good to have knowledge of XML because in XI you will be dealing with it quite often.
