AS Java and Database backup: how?

Former Member

Hello Experts,

I am attempting to update our Sap Solution Manager system to EHP1 SP18 using SAINT / JSPM.

One of the steps for preparing the system for the update (of the JSPM) is to take a backup of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server (AS Java) and of the database.

Can anyone give me some indications on how to perform these steps? Is this done via a transaction?

Many thanks,

Aldo

Hi Aldo,

You can do this by taking a Java DB Export (via SAPINST), which includes the Java file system content as well.

Another method is taking an OS level backup of the Java file system content (i.e.: usr/sap/<SID>...) & a regular DB13 backup for the DB content (SAP<SID>DB).

Hope this helps.

Have a great day,

Saba.

Thanks Saba and thanks Subhash.

I have more questions regarding DB13 but I will open a new thread for these.

Thanks Saba,

How do I start the SAPINST application? Do I have to do it via the installation CDs or is there another way?

If the executable is on the server it would make it much easier to use...

Thanks in advance for your help,

Aldo

Copy the installation master into shared drive and execute it from there.

SAPINST is part of the Installation Master which comes with you Installation DVD's.

You need to run SAPINST & use the System Copy -->Export Database option.

Thanks,

Saba.
