Netweaver vs Netweaver AS

what is the difference between Netweaver and Netweaver AS ?

Hi Jean Marc,

I think Rohit Goyal has explained the difference quite well. In fact, AS just stands for 'application server'. Usually we talk about NW WAS = Netweaver Web Application Server.

Applications: XXXX XXXXX ERP, SRM, CRM

Technology (Netweaver): EP PI WAS

In some sense you're correct.

With the release of Netweaver (as a intergrating platform and base for all future SAP products) SAP generally devides its product into 1. Business suite. 2. SAP Netweaver AS

1. Business suite - consists of SRM, CRM, ERP, PLM, SCM. (these are also based on Netweaver platform)

2. SAP Netweaver Application server - all integration software like Portal, PI, BI.

think it like this

SAP netweaver consists of all the techonologies EP,PI,WEB AS

and under WEB AS you have different applications like ERP,CRM etc..

EP use AS

and Web AS is less clear for me ...

Hello Jean,

SAP Netweaver is the group of all SAP technology products

i.e it contains all the products like EP,PI,WEB AS etc...

where Netwaver AS is one product of SAP netweaver.

It is actually the runtime environment for all SAP applications like : ERP,SRM,CRM

Basically it acts as the base on which these applications run

AS is not a product like EP,AS is just a part of SAP Netweaver
