3rd party transportation planning system

Hi,

Does anyone in here have experience with a 3rd party transportation planning system integrated with SAP?

We are facing a scenario where we will need to implement a Trans.Planning system with SAPECC6.0 and what it does for the business is the following:

*Looks for cheapest way to transport a delivery to customer

*Optimizes transports to customers so that deliveries are collected and put into the same carrier and then ships to customers

Now, when our business is placing the sales orders in SAP, they want the route to be determined automatically from the cheapest way to delivery to the customer, information comes from the 3rd party system. We dont really know how to build in this functionality with SAP...anyone has any clue or experience on this?Alternatively, it could give the optimized route selection at the time of delivery creation.

There are some things we are a bit curious about, and that is the best setup for the ATP, if we have the 3rd party system update the route in the sales order/delivery, is there any way to not have the ATP recheck if we change the route? We dont want to redetermine the ATP just because we want to have another system optimize the route for us...maybe it is impossible, I dont know.

Please, if you have any thoughts on how this is best done or any experience from this, please post!

High points will be given!

Regards,

Lars

Hi Lars,

I've worked with a scenario in which the route was determined in the delivery, purely based on delivery day (so could also be in the order). From there, the deliveries were sent via iDoc to 3rd party system GC3 from GLOC (currently Oracle). In the 3rd party system rules were setup to combine different deliveries into trucks / shipments.

The shipment from GC3 was sent back to SAP. The logic of building trucks based on UN (hazard class), volume, weight etc was all done in 3rd party system. Also pricing was done there but sent with the shipment data. Once a shipment was created in SAP and changes were made in GC3, the changes were replicated back to SAP again.

Hope this is of some help to you.
