MaxDB log size
We have a SAP Content Server running on a MaxDB, but are not familiar with administering MaxDB
Does the log size of MaxDB have an issue regarding db performance?
Eg. We have an log size of 1 Gb, will the DB performance increase if we clear the log?
Any input welcome

There is about a ton of FAQ notes available for MaxDB - especially for MaxDB administration:
#869267 - FAQ: MaxDB LOG area
#846890 - FAQ: MaxDB Administration
#819641 - FAQ: MaxDB Performance
#1173395 - FAQ: MaxDB configuration
#820824 - FAQ: MaxDB / SAP liveCache technology
#814704 - MaxDB Version 7.6 parameter settings for OLTP/BW

Except for extremely small log volumes (say 20 MB for a high transaction load system): NO.

No way!
By clearing the log all you accomplish is that you loose data that is necessary once the database needs to be recoverd.
The log area size is absolutely fine with 1GB.
Make sure to take regular log backups (using autolog would be the method of choice) and that's it about the log area administration.
If you face any performance issues, you may want to check the db parameters and the dbanalyzer for any warnings.

Lars
