Ques 1 >>> If you look at the help - SMTP ->
You use SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to transfer e-mails to an e-mail server. IMAP4 ->
You use IMAP4 (Internet Message Access Protocol) to put e-mails in a folder of an e-mail server.
Ques 2 >>> the url will be the address of your email server
Question 3 >>> depend on your requirement , refer Prasad's blog /people/prasad.ulagappan2/blog/2005/06/07/mail-adapter-scenarios-150-sap-exchange-infrastructure for more details.
Hi Andy,
You can configure a receiver mail adapter and choose the message protocol as XIPAYLOAD. You can configure the receiver mail adapter as per the help in this link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/6b/4493404f673028e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
Else if you want to send the file received in your file system, then you have to configure another scenario to pick up the file and send it as an email.

Chandra
