BR017W Offline redo log file %s not found with tape backup

Former Member

Hi people,

I am encountering some problems with brarchive, each time it is run it returns the error :BR017W Offline redo log file %s not found . It used to work fine when we used backup to disk medium, and still works. But ever since we moved to a third-party tape backup (symantec), brarchive has always failed. (brbackup works ok).

I have considered the SAP notes 490976 and 17163 and tried some of the possible solutions but problem persists. One of the mentioned scenarios in the notes occurred in the past (e.g, offline redo logs have been deleted in the past).

How can i resolve this problem, please?

Regards,

A.S

1. you have not installed Oracle with SAPSERVER.CMD, you use SETUP.EXE and you are not using SAP standards. This is probably not causing your issue, though.

2. does directory D:\oracle\DEV\oraarch exist?

3. can you find file DEVARCHARC02635_0666442089.001 elsewhere on your hard disks?

4. read your errors and act accordingly:

beerrors_EN.dll - The specified module could not be found.
Please set PATH environment variable with valid beerrors_EN.dll path and rerun the job.

Thanks for the feedback.

Directory D:\oracle\DEV\oraarch does exist;

File DEVARCHARC02635_0666442089.001, DEVARCHARC02636_0666442089.001 and DEVARCHARC02637_0666442089.001 were somewhere else on the harddisks. i have returned them to directory D:\oracle\DEV\oraarch.

I'm addressing all the errors, and will act accordingly.

check your initSID.ora file for log_archive_dest parameter

log_archive_dest is 'D:\oracle\DEV\oraaarch\DEVarch'.

where were located the files?

I have a feeling that a DB or Basis admin moved those files on another disk because you were in an archive stuck situation.

Eric, thanks so far.

If this happened, any other way out?
