/usr/sap/trans is 95% full

Dear Friends

My /usr/sap/trans is going to be 95% full, our environment is ECC6.0 with Oracle 10g on AIX5.3,

While creating the file system i had allocated 5GB, but now almost 4.57gb is used.

i would like to ask you which files from the folders cofiles & data should i remove, so that i can free some space. there are two types of files inside these folders one with the extention ".SAP" and another with ".<SID>"

Regards

Ayush

All support packages are also unpacked into /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in

If you are finished with your support packages (nothing in queue and everything is in production) and you have no need for additional languages (support packages sometimes contain some language dependent data) you can delete all files in that directory.

Dear Tomas,

As you mentioned, i can delete the below mentioned files in the folder /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in

-rw-rw-rw- 1 irdadm sapsys 324 Feb 14 2008 CSR0120031469_0029668.ATT

-rw-rw-rw- 1 irdadm sapsys 11310585 Feb 14 2008 CSR0120031469_0029668.PAT

-rw-rw-rw- 1 irdadm sapsys 323 Feb 15 2008 CSR0120031469_0029678.ATT

-rw-rw-rw- 1 irdadm sapsys 4548197 Jul 10 2008 CSR0120031469_0031687.PAT

so the conclusion is we can delete files with extention ".SAP" in folders cofiles & data

and also we can delete .ATT & .PTT file from /usr/sap/trans/in (we can only delete .ATT .PTT file if all the pacthes are applied and are not required for other instances of SAP)

please correct me if you think i am wrong anywhere ?

your suggestions are highly appreciated

yes.

Just be aware, that if you plan to another language you will need all those files (all support packages from your installation version to the version you are on) to import language specific parts.

Until then - yes - you can delete them.

Hi Ayush,

why you want to delete old files.

I suggest you to increase the size of this file systems.

when you create requests on your development server it will create request with .<SID> extention

and for SAP developed objects if you changed then it will create request with .SAP extention.

hope this will help you

Hi Nitin,

You are absolutely correct with .<SID> are all Transport Requests generated from my Development system, and i cant delete them in anycase.

But there are files with extension .SAP as shown below, and these gets accumulated as in when we uncar the support packages, so i would like to know can i delete these below mentioned files ?, and if i delete would it have any effect on the ruuning sap system ?

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 794 Aug 25 2008 KE60028.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 793 Aug 25 2008 KE60029.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 793 Aug 25 2008 KE60030.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 793 Aug 25 2008 KE60031.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 792 Sep 10 2008 KGPRD07.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 790 Sep 10 2008 KGPRD08.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 790 Sep 10 2008 KGPRD09.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 790 Sep 10 2008 KGPRD10.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 791 Sep 10 2008 KGPRD11.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irqadm sapsys 790 Sep 15 2008 KGPRD12.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irdadm sapsys 792 Oct 14 03:23 KH60013.SAP

-rw-rw-r-- 1 irdadm sapsys 550 Nov 04 18:40 KITAR7C.SAP

As you said in your last message -> that while chaning SAP Development objects, this will create a request with .SAP extention, is it true. Because as far as i know Transport Requests are only created with the extention .<SID> not with .SAP. Please throw the light on the subject & correct me if i am wrong...

Your suggestions are highly appreciated

Hi Ayush,

You are right when you edited SAP objects on your landscape it will create request with .<SID>

but if you downloaded SAP objects modified by SAP then they are having .SAP extention.

If you delete these request then it will not effect your existing running system.

but for precaution I suggest u keep copy of all these files on tape or somewhere else and then delete it.

Hi,

Listed request is created when you import support package in your SAP Development System.

so you can delete it.
