You can do a

more stderr4

You can also use tail -f <stderr4> if you have installed tail4win from http://tailforwin32.sourceforge.net/

The file is growing because of an error - and this error need to be fixed first before the file will stop growing.

thanks a lot here is the error log from file stderr4( it wont be full error log but a snap shot

ok i found something on other blog which says this might be a reason that connection to port is closed by firewall or antivirus. so let me check that out.

so if that would be the case can delete this file from the location ????

Hello Markus,

I deleted the file Sdterr4 and created an empty file of the same type. I switched off the Firewall setting cause i find out this is the actual cause. I did a restarted but after restart i am not able to start MMC directly but i am able to start SAP through CMD prompt using Startsap command.

I serached a lot on this error

"MMC cannot open the file C:\Windows\SAPMMC.MSC'

this is because the file does not exists, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of the MMC. This may also be because you do no have sufficient access rights to the file."

As per suggestion i could be having a authorization problem on folder bu i have full authorization on server. i tried with <SID>adm and Administrator login id but in vain.

for info i have SAP ecc6 ehp4 on windows 2003 server with 2005 sql server.

i have created the system using system copy.

any reply will be appreciated.

you can in C:\windows\system32 that SAPMMC.dll was there or not, sometimes i have seen that files SAPMMC.dll was there with different name, so you can check by changing the name if it is available.

Hi Mani,

stderr files will occupies the space when an issue is occuring with your sap application.

At the same time your /usr/sap/SID will get occupied ubnormally.

Just have a look at job logs at os level, if there any job log is getting occupied more than normal scenarios, then go to sm37 and try to identify and delete.

And stderr file will automatically concat after every restart, means there is no need to delete or recreate this file. When you are going to restart your application it will release the entire space from old file.

According to your scenario, SAP is starting from cmd level. I suggest to reinstall SAPMMC using sapstartsrv.exe.
