Hi Suchir,

Responsibilities of MDM consultant vary from project to project. Generally MDM implementation is carried out in multi environment scenarios like:ECC,legacy systems etc..MDM works as a central master data in the landscape. In this case the ownership of the project lies with MDM consultant. The activies are: Architecture(it may cover in RFP/SOW),Requirement gathering, data modeling in MDM, Integration ports designing with ECC and other systems,Testing, end user training etc..Designing of interface/middleware(e.g XI) and extraction from ECC,IDOC designing etc will be carried out by XI/ECC consultant though the ownership lies with MDM consultant.

In case of a support project or MDM has a little chunk in the project, then the ownership will be with some other track and MDM will be driven by it.

Hi Suchir!

1.Can anyone tell me what are the responsibilities of MDM - Consultant. What exactly he need to do?

Ans. The SAP MDM Consultant is involved in the design and implementation of technology enabled business solutions and plays a critical role in connecting business and IT. The SAP MDM Consultant analyses business requirements and transforms these into (global) standard SAP solutions.

A MDM Consultants role varies a lot with type of project he/she is in. It also varies on the which stage of implementation he is working in.

His Key Responsibilities could be:

->Participate, coordinate and conduct Requirements gathering sessions, document meeting minutes, findings, decisions, action items from requirements sessions.

->Define Data Requirements including data definitions, validations, data cleansing rules, exception handling rules for MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operation) Materials and Chart of Accounts Master Data Management etc.

->Define User Interface requirements including for entering Master Data via Portal

->Define Business Process and Workflow requirements

->Review requirements with users and stakeholders and obtain sign-offs.

->Develop Requirements Traceability Matrix

->Develop Functional Requirements and high level design deliverables.

To add to that other important responsibilities/tasks of the SAP MDM Consultant could be to:

Help clients creatively resolve Master Data issues to satisfy their Customers and Businesses while respecting the policies and procedures defined for Master Data management.

Be responsible for defining and validating need for new enterprise master data attributes or entities.

Provide expert knowledge of enterprise master data in support of Business, Operations and Technology teams. Conducting UAT's and trainings.

2.Can any one also tell me the full life cycle implemetaion of MDM.

Ans. SAP MDM implementation lifecycle includes :

1.Project Preparation.

2.Blue Print Phase.

3.Realization Phase

4. Final Preparation.

5.Go- Live

Hi Suchir,

Can anyone tell me what are the responsibilities of MDM - Consultant. What exactly he need to do.

- An MDM Consultant is a Master Data Consultant. So his/her primary task is to manage and maintain the Master data in good shape. In Todays heterogenous environments the Master data whcih is the heart of any Business is not is good shape, thats the reason SAP has come out with the Solution for master data management through SAP-MDM.

- So as an MDM consultant you will be expected to deliver the following if you are using the SAP-MDM tool.

1) Understanding the Business problem

2) Understanding the different Master data used in the particular Organisation(say if its Material Master/Customer etc)

3) Once the understanding phase is done you will have to provide a Solution thorough SAP MDM and then design and Implement this solution to the Customer

4) This includes Data Modelling of the Business partner used in the landscape

5) Designing the mDM repository

6) Creating Business Validations in MDM

7) If the Customer wishes to have Master data Governance then design of the Workflow

😎 Providing Roles and Authorization

etc......

Depending on the Integration of MDM with other systems in the Landscape you may also be expected to know how the integartion is done for eg:

- MDM with XI and R/3 system

- MDM with SRM system

- MDM with Portal

Can any one also tell me the full life cycle implemetaion of MDM.

- Being an SAP Product its life cycle implementation also follows the similar steps as required by an SAP implementation

1) Requirement gathering

2) Blue Printing

3) Implementation

4) Testing

5) Go Live and then Support

Hope It Helped

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

The role of an SAP MDM Consultant is different from that of a technical consultant .As a SAP MDM Consultant one should have a better view for both - the business side as well as technical side.

He should be in line with

1. Data Modeling

2. Data Governance

3. Business process understanding with functional aspects.

4. Cross domain knowledge like BI,PI for plug in MDM with them.

5. He needs to also well verse with various scenarios like Consolidation, Harmonization and centrally

manage the master data

It is expected to know about all MDM related stuff like Repository Administration and from Data Extraction to loading to Syndication.

And as far as various Implementation phases are concern

It should be like

Project

Blue printing

Realization

Final

Go live

Hope it helps.
