Hi David,

Data Manager Functionalities can be called on the portal using two ways

- Using SAP Standard Iviews

- Using Custome defined Webdynpros with MDM Java Apis

Calling the Import Manager functionalities on portal is still not supported by SAP And in my view this is not a common requiremnet as Import manager is used to import master data into MDM.This is mostly a on etiem activity or is made automatic through the Import server.

The real work on the Master data is done through the Data manager and its here that we can have End users login in through Internet or Intranet to work on the master data.

So even if you have a specific requirement wherein you want to perform the Import manager activities through Portal,it is not preesntly available.

To know more on standard integartion of MDM with Portal please refer the below link:

To know more on the use of Java Api on portal refer the below link:

Hope It Helped

Hi. Thanks a lot for that. We are actually going to be using MDM Catalogue for use with SRM, so a large part of the work will be uploading data from spreadsheets using import manager.

The problem we have with installing import manager is that all the IT here is outsourced, and getting a new GUI installed is very slow and expensive, so I was hoping that we could somehow bypass installing import manager on individual PCs.

Is it possible to schedule imports from a network drive on the import server? That way we could just put the spreadsheets in a folder and let them upload. We would then have to have some sort of way of moving the spreadsheets to stop them uploading again, would that also be possible?

Could we actually call an API from ECC to force the import maybe?

Thanks again,

Dave.

Yes it is possible to schedule the import from network drive on import server. But for that also you would require the GUI to be installed since u have to create a import map(Consisting of field and value mapping). This map is then specified in MDM console so that import server can facilitate the import.

the import file i.e the spreadsheet is to be placed in ready folder of the port for import server to pick it up.once the file is imported it is moved to archive folder to prevent uploading again.

Could we actually call an API from ECC to force the import maybe?

Yes u can use APIs but then u hav to manually enter the data.this wnt help import spreadsheet.

Hi David,

Import Manager is used to import data from the source file to MDM system. While data manager is used to manipulate the data present in the MDM box.

Presently portal provides the basic functionality of the data manager ie. can play around with data that is already present in the MDM system and cannot help in the import or similar other process of import manager.

You can use APIs to perform other functionalities.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Hi David,

I think u cant access SAP MDM Data mngr or Import Mngr through portal, but for sure u can access the data manager functionality through portal. SAP has given std MDM-portal content (such iViews, various searches). U can deploy those content & access MDM through portal. Even u can design ur customized screens using dynpro application.

Hi David,

As of now we don't have standard portal content which can provide MDM Import Manager's functionality on portal. Kindly check the below link to view the functionalities provided by the standard shipped content.
