Authenticate users based on IP address/hostname?

Hi!

Anyone knows if it is possible to authenticate users that are calling a PI system based on IP/host instead of using username/password?

If so, how can this be achieved?

Thanks!

regards Ole

Hi!

Points given to you two for that...I'll go for the username/pwd.

Your company has to use Firewall mechanism for filtering IP addresses.

Hi

Thanks for answering. So what you are saying is that I cannot configure anything in PI that says that only this and that IP address can connect, this has to be done in the main firewall?

If my company use these firewall mechanisms, does that mean other vendors can access my services without username/password?

This is not exactly what I had in mind, but if it is not possible to do this in PI, I will go for the username/password option...

Thanks!

UserName and Password is mandatory for XI/PI system as there will no anonymous logins.

So Firewall is a first level filter & User Name/Password is application level filter.

Hi,

I don't think you can be able to access PI system without User name and password. You may have firwall filtering for IP addresses, but must have User Id and passwords for authentic login.

Thanks
