Backup only 1 copy via dbcockpit

Hi,

I had backed up the db via dbacockpit. If I only want a set of the backup to exist, i.e. the old copy of the backup will be deleted after the new copy completes. Where and what setting should I set ? initORCL.sap ?

Please advise. TIA !

Hi,

As per my knowledge there is no such parameter settings in initSID.sap to delete privous backup once you finished new one.

what you can do is you can write manual scirpt or batch file in which you can fire backup via command line using brbackup and after that command you can delete old copy by command line.

for backup copy you just follow standar directory structure like backup<%DATE%>.

so that you can delete previous backup

we did same thing on AIX

if you need in more detail pls let me know.

Hi,

Managed to find out that there's this cleanup option in the initORCL.sap.

Many thanks !

  1. cleanup_disk_archive = 30

  2. retention period in days for database files backed up on disk

  3. default: 30

  4. cleanup_disk_backup = 30

  5. retention period in days for brspace export dumps and scripts

  6. default: 30....

it is not a good idea to delete the last backup logs. you should keep at least one full backup cycle. that is 28 days as per SAP's recommendations.

Yes, you're right.

My current backup is weekly and I can only afford 2 copies in the disk.

So, I'll have to delete (cleanup backup older than 14days) one copy before I start a new backup.

TIA !
