Hi Experts,
I have been assigned task to install 4 SAP R/3 instances on one Windows host in which 2 instances are already installed successfully & running with no issues. I need to install another 2 instances for DEV & QA on the same system by upgrading the RAM & Storage.
Below are the configuration of my system.
Processor: - Intel Xeon 3.4 Ghz 2 Quad Core
Storage: - Existing 146*4=584 GB
Upgrading to 146*8= 1168GB
RAM: - Existing 4GB
Upgrading to 12 GB.
Operating System: - Windows 2003 Standard Server Edition 64bit R2
SAP Application: - SAP R/3 4.7 Enterprise Edition SR1
Database: - Oracle 10g
I want know is this possible ? can 4 instances run on one Windows host ?
Thanks,
Shambo
As long as you don't expect great performance... I can't see why not. I't will be a logistic nightmare to try restarting the DB.
Why don't you just get another box?... seems like you have budget for spare hardware.
This is certainly not recomended for a production environment.

Hi Juan,
Thanks for quick repy.
This is for Development System. As there are some budget contraints. I know it is not recommended but just want to check about the possiblity on given hardware configuration.
I am planning to install the 4 Central Instances 2 for DEV & 2 for QA. I am worried about the Database instance as 4 different Oracle Homes will be installed....
Thanks,
Shambo
Hi,
We do have some servers with 4 R/3 4.7 system on Windows 2003 IA64 with Oracle 9.2.0.7.
We have 32 GB of RAM on the server.
We install 4 separate Oracle databases.
It works great. The only problem is that we have "all eggs in the same basket". when the server is down, we have 4 systems down...
But we were required to lower the number of physical servers.
We also installl now all oour application servers on VMWARE virtual servers.
Regards,
Olivier
Hi again,
For 4 SAP R/3 4.7 systems on the same server
we have 2 different kinds of servers :
8 Itanium processors, 32 GB RAM, 5 TG disks, Windows 2003 IA64
4 Xeon quadri-core (16 cpu cores) , 32 or 64 GB RAM, 5 TB disks, Windows 2003 x64
>Windows 2003 Standard Server edition 64bit R2
Check the PAM, I think I remember that Enterprise edition is needed...
Regards,
Olivier
