Hello all,

We're upgrading our BI 7 to 64Bit SQL05. I'm looking for the guide for such upgrade however the only guide I found was this https://websmp103.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000065928

Any special guide for BIs SQL Upgrades or any special steps need to be taken?

Thanks in advance guys,

Samer

Hi,

For MS SQL 2005 upgrade guide go to http://service.sap.com/instguides

then choose other documentation --> database upgrades --> MS SQL server

BI 7.0 is a part of netweaver hence you can download the upgrade guides for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s)

Hi Samer

What's the source DB version? SQL 2000 or 2005? 32bit or x64?

I upgraded once from BW 2.1c to BI 7.0, SQL 2000 32bit to 2005 X64. That was a nightmare, quite complicated. That case must be divided into 4 parts to complete, please let me know what your case looks like and discuss more about it.

Thanks,

Hi Effan,

Ouch sorry to hear it was that bad. The guide above is pretty straight forward. Please let me know more.

We are on SQL 200 64bit hardware BI 7.0, so we'll be moving to 64Bit SQL05. However because of the support pack level, we are still using the old BW 3.5 tools. Now as part of the SQL upgrade we have to bring the SP level/kernel to the latest level, meaning I'll have to discuss this with BW developers to have a smoother upgrade. Would this have any effect on the DB upgrade?

Thanks in advance,

Samer

Hello Samer

It won't harm anything if you patch SAP to the newest stack level. Is it BW 3.5 version of BEX analyzer that you mean still using old 3.5 tool, and BW instance is 7.0? If OS and SAP version remain the same, only SQL server will be upgraded from 2000 64bit to 2005 64bit, then it will be straight forward. Just run SQL 2005 setup wizard, and after successful upgrade follow with STM tool to do final conversion.

Thanks,

Hi Effan,

Hi Effan,

I'm not sure what you mean by the STM conversion tool, can you please clarify?

Hello my friend

Sorry about this delay. Check note 683447 first, and STM tool download link as below:

https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700001156372007E/STM.ZIP

It's a post-installation tool provided by SAP for MS SQL server, has 4 functions if my memory's not wrong. Post steps for DB copy and SQL 2005 conversion are included.

Thanks,

Effan
