Hello,

We need to change the SID of our development system. It's on AIX+Oracle. It has been up and running for about 6 months now.

Could someone please guide me through the process.

Thanks.

there is no way exists to resolve your problem without Homogeneous system copy or new installation with DB copy.no body can change your SID with an existing hardware and existing installation.

Hi,

1) Install SAP on a fresh system with your required SID.

2) Take the full backup of the source system.

3) Try to restore the new system with the source full backup.

@ Lolla

Try to restore the new system with the source full backup.

That will restore the DB with the same SID. Meaning this is a no go.

Beside that user mentioned,

I do not have extra hardware or space for a system copy. I need to change the SID of this particular system itself.

So where is the backup going to be done?...

To change the SID of a systems theres only 2 avenues... one is a Database Copy (which is only good for ABAP only as JAVA usually give a lot of trouble when done this way) and the second one is Homogeneous System Copy (which is the way recommended by SAP). Both required additional Space.

Just do a homogeneos system copy, that will prompt you for a new SID

No way to change the SID of a system without doing a HSC or a DB copy.
