Hi,

As of NetWeaver 7.0 EHP (and related applicatoin such as SAP ERP6.0 EHP4),

which has just released in May 2009,

only single stack installation is available.

There are some disadvantage on dual-stack such as scalability and maintenance

SAP clearly now recommend to setup with single stack.

Only some applications such as PI and SolMan are allowed to configured

with Double Stack (Dual Stack).

More detail see http://sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/landscapedesign -> Distribution Models

This means on ERP6.0 EHP4 you have to install ABAP and JAVA separately (separate SID).

JAVA is only required if you needs JAVA functionality.

(Most of R/3 functiaonality which is called ECC requires only ABAP)

So your configuration is quite normal.

(pattern-A)

server1: ABAP instance

server2: JAVA instance

server3: Database instance

Other alternative would be also possible.

(pattern-B)

server1: ABAP instance / JAVA instance / DB instance

(pattern-C)

server1: ABAP instance / JAVA instance

server2: DB instance

and more...

Hi Uday,

to be more specific ...

if you've in stalled a doublestack system ( BI ) and after some time you realize that it would be better to separate these two stacks on two different machines;

ABAP Stack on machine 'A', JAVA Stack on machine 'B' and the Database on machine 'C';

Is it possible to separate the Stack ?

kind regards

Oliver

Yes, it is possible. We did it with our ECC system.

Thanks,

Hi,

Did you uninstall the add-in java stack or do you just not start it ?

We left the stack down for a month or so and then uninstalled it.

Hi,

>We left the stack down for a month or so and then uninstalled it.

Thanks, it's interesting as I read that it was supposed to be not possible (or more likely not supported) to uninstall.

I think I will give it a try in a few weeks...

Thanks in advanced

Hello Olivier CHRETIEN

Hi Oliver Teutsch

*We left the stack down for a month or so and then uninstalled it.*

Thanks, it's interesting as I read that it was supposed to be not possible (or more likely not supported) to uninstall.
I think I will give it a try in a few weeks...

For me it's also interesting, are possible uninstalling or not ...

Per all guides and notes i'm read, I came to the conclusion

It's possibe on UNIX , but not in windows ....

In guide for AB+JA for win :

In an ABAP+Java system you cannot uninstall the Java part only. Instead you can prevent the Java

system from starting by setting the following parameter in the instance profile:

rdisp/j2ee_start = 0

For unix (and oracle under unix) :

Note 1229586 - UNIX:Deleting an NW 7.0/7.01 based SAP System Manually

Note 1229689 - UNIX:Deleting NW7.0/7.01 based Oracle DB Instance/Schema

Corect me some one if i'm mistacen. Thank's to all.

to Oliver Teutsch

is it possible to seperate the JAVA/ABAP Stack if you have installed a Doublestack system ?

what do you want to do specifically ? What do you want to do with the existing JAVA, she did not work for you?

Regards.

Hi Sergo,

In my CRM 2007 systems,I had installed Java as a dual stack because it was the SAP advice we got at the time (sic...). The functional consultants were not able to tell us if they really neeeded the java stack.

Luckily, in fact, they don't use Java. So I don't start the java stack anymore using

rdisp/j2ee_start = 0

The system start time is 30 seconds instead of 8 minutes with Java enabled !

If,in the future, we would need a java stack, I will install a separate Java stack and maybe try to uninstall the integrated one. We're using Windows, but it seems possible to uninstall : a colleague of mine just uninstalled a Solman Java stack ans reinstalled it. (It was messed up with incorrect SP).

Olivier

Uninstalling a Java stack will not be a problem.Use SAP tools to uninstall same. Then build another system with Java stack and same schema as earlier. Connect these two systems with JCo and things should be fine...

Will this anyway affect the ABAP stack?

Is it applicable for all OS or only for UNIX as mentioned above?

Hi Naveed,

Please be so kind, tell me more about a separation by you ECC system. I need it urgently.

I have to separate ABAP+JAVA dual stack ERP 6.00 system on windows/oracle.

I have no problem to uninstall the JAVA stack. It works because JAVA was installed as an add-on. I have allready done such an action. I am not shure - what happens with the developments and customizations for exampl by ESS applikation.

What did you do with you applications in JAVA?

Thanks in advance

Hi Vladimir,

As mentioned in one of the post that we changed the parameter so that the Java does not come up. We upgraded or R/3 system from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 and as part of that upgrade we installed Java as an add-in. We were not using any application in Java at that time and when we decided to use that's where we installed another ECC JAVA.

But I am sure someone in this forum might be able to help you on his matter.

Thanks,

Naveed
