Double stack installation

Hi,

We are having a BI 7.0 system on ABAP stack.

There is a requirement to install Java stack also for functionality of 'Information Broadcasting'.

Does SAP recommend to install a separate Java stack (with a different database) for this purpose OR is it better to install just a Java Add-in in the ABAP stack in the existing database.

Please let us know.

Thanks & Regards,

Kunal.

SAP's genral recommendation is to install ABAP and Java in separate systems (where offered by

SAP). Benifits include:

Separation of duties

Independent scalability & performance

Optimal resource consumption

Maintenance downtime only for used stack

Have a look at this document. It expalins very well the pros and cons of Dual Stack vs. Separated Stacks.

Hi,

Yes, install a separate Java stack.

The installation is slightly more complex but your future admin life will be much simpler !

We do have a BI dual stack system and we regret it a lot... (That was the previous SAP advice )

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for their valuable inputs...

But we require some note or document from SAP wherein it states clearly that SAP recommends double stack instead of dual stack.

Also, do let me know whether it is advisable to install the 'new' Java stack on the same host as the 'old or existing' ABAP stack or on a different host?

Kunal.

Hi Kunal,

>But we require some note or document from SAP wherein it states clearly that SAP recommends double stack instead of dual stack.

Did you look at the link that Naveed provided? It's right in there.

HI Matt,

Yes, there is a document and I have gone through it.

But the problem is that the document does not state anywhere clearly saying that "SAP recommends double stack instead of dual stack".

Because we need to show this to the customer.

Thanks & Regards,

Kunal.

Hi,

The decision to install as dual stack or double stack is up to you.

You have to make your own mind from the specifics of your company and the SAP document.

SAP will never tell what you have to do. Real life is never so simple...

Hi Kunal,

Please take a look at slides 16-18 and the summary on slide 19 and tell me what you see.
