Hi All,

If any one of you have MDM architecure for materials master syndication please let me know . my company does not want to use any Middle ware system instead of standard idoc processing they want to go with LSMW . which is the best format to syndicate files (XML or XLS or TXT) .Please let me know ASAP .

can we get the data from MDM into MATMAS IDOC format ?

here is my company flow .

MDM -

> MDM SYNDICATOR ---> LSMW (to upload the data in to MDM) -

>R/3 system.

which is the best method to upload the data via LSMW?

Hi Priya,

LSMW can be a way out..But defianately not the best one as you may need to perform a whole lot of steps manually. As you will be required to syndciate the file in csv format so you will have to create the entire MATMAS IDOc structure by adding destiantion items and also map each field manually while if you use the standard idoc type then you can use the standard maps which will make your task easier.

Better option is to use a middle ware like PI.Syndicate the file in XML format to the ready folder which in return will be picked up by PI, convert the XML into IDOC and post it back to R3.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Hi Priya,

From MDM we can syndicate both XML and FLAT file to local system. The upload to R/3 via LSMW is a manual and tedious process. However if it is an one time activity then LSMW can be preferred. For uploading via LSMW, the excel files have to be syndicated from MDM syndicate manager. The automatic syndication and upload to R/3 can be achieved by auto syndicate feature of mdm and PI/XI (middleware)which is very convenient. If you need any doc or further help pls feel free to write.

Hi Bis ,

If you have any documentation on this please let me know . Instead PI/XI is there any alternative ? We have 50 k materials . Definately this will not be one time load . is thera any thing in R3 side which will convert XML files into IDOC in R3 ?

How to get the List of fields from R3 which will be involving in syndication? Is there any direct process to get the list fields from R3 ?

Hi Priya,

PI can be used to convert the syndicated XML file to the IDoc which is an input to the R3 system.

You need to perform ALE settings and the SLD configurations followed by ID and IR settings.

Refer /people/harrison.holland5/blog/2006/12/20/xi-configuration-for-mdm-integration--sample-scenario

Hope it helps.

Hi Priya,

If you want to avoid the use of XI for master data upload the other alternative is the use of LSMW.

The only problem in doing this is that you will have to use TXT file for syndication And for syndication in text format in MDM you will have to manually create all the ECC fields in the Syndicator destination items.

As you are not suing the standard XML schema .

You can get the list of the fields to be syndicated to ECC for a particular master through the business content.

Kinldy refer the below link for the same:

You will need a S user id to view these links. They contain all deatils of the fields that need to be maintained and syndiacted to ECC form MDM.

Hope It Helped

Hi priya,

If you dealing with Material Master data in an ECC ERP system it is difficult to avoid Idocs.

LSMW performs data extraction and migration mostly in Text format. And this text data cannot be uploaded in to ECC system for Material master creation.

You will need the material data in an XML format so that it can be coverted to Idoc to fit in to material master tables and fields.

If you want to avoid the use of XI in your landscape. You can use ABAP programming for XML to Idoc conversion.

As LSMW output will be text, and plain text cannot be converted to Idoc and ECC system will accept only idoc.

You can refer the below link to get some insight on the topic:

We cannot we get the data from MDM into MATMAS IDOC format directly, we definetly need middle ware to convert it the into IDOC format.

LSMW is a generic approach for data extraction and migration.SAP has provided standard transaction like MDM_CLNT_EXTR to extract ECC master data and push it in to MDM.LSMW is not primarly used in this area.

The following are the links for LSMW:

http://www.sap-img.com/general/lsmw-steps-for-data-migration.htm

http://www.scribd.com/doc/7151636/LSMW

The MDM Syndicator exports record data to a file in either flat text or XML format. There are four basic steps to using the MDM Syndicator:

u2022 Connect to a source MDM repository

u2022 Define the map

u2022 Select the records to syndicate

u2022 Execute the syndication

Please go through the following links for better understanding:

I hope this would be some help.
