SLD best practices

Hi Mates,

We already have SAP EP and Soln Manager and R/3, CRM etc. We are planning to install XI now.

I understand that a single SLD which is used by EP, XI and Soln manger is the recommended approach. Also, SAP recommends single SLD for DEV, QA and PRD enviroment.

Now my question is where to install & host the SLD? I see the following options

SLD + Soln Manger on same system

SLD + XI on same system

SLD on a diff system altogether

Whats the best practice and what are its pros n cons.

I highly appreciate your views.

Thanks

Praveen

Actually it doesn't really matter where you run your SLD, but from a functionality and role-in-the-system-landscape perspective I would put it on the SolMan system, since these are both landscape-wide services.

Hi Praveen

The big disadvantage of having single SLD for DEV ,QA and PROD landscape is that it presents a hindrance to upgrade , if an SLD upgrade was needed in a particular case that wouldnt be possible since that could affect the PROD landscape ,unless you planned for a PROD downtime.

With separate SLDs its possible to test out the upgrade in DEV landscape before doing it on PROD. The disadvantge of course being in multiple SLD scenario is content transport.
