Hi Friends,

usr/sap/<sid>/DVEBMGS<nn>/j2ee/cluster/server0/log/archive

In the above folder the default trace files of XI are getting archived, which is zip format and in hidden mode. These files have occupied huge amount of space.

What is the importance of these files?

Are these files necessary?

Will it cause any problem if we delete these file?

Pls help !!

Regards,

Bharath.

Hai,

Check the below link.....

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/ac/e9d8a51c732e42bd0e7de54b9ff4e2/frameset.htm

You can delete the old archives if you really dont see any issue.

Hi Bharath,

Default trace files are used for following purposes.

1. Analyze and debug the server issues.

2. Analyze and debug the application issues also.

If it is a production server, it is best practice to archive to atleast for 3-6 months. For every issue in production system, we need to analyze and find the root cause. Even SAP requests the default trace files to resolve the ticket raised by us in service market place.

Thanks,

Hai,

It is better to delete files older than 5 or 6 months, if it is a Production server.

In DEV and QAS you can have your own strategy, but it is better to have file of 2 or 3 months.
