Dear Friends,
Whats the difference between MTO & STO?...................
Hi Saravanakumar
MTO -
>Make to order That means materials are specially manufactured or procured against a customers request and normally we dont manufacture these items
So to trigger the manufaturing or production a sales order from the customer is required
That is production order is triggered up on receiving the sales order
This the very meaning of MTO
MTO is basically a sales order
STO -
>Stock transport order Earlier it was called STPO (stock transport Purchase order) and shortened to STO now
This is shifting stocks from one plant to another plant---movement of materials from one plant to another plant
A lot of excellent threads are available regarding STO in both SD and MM forums
2 types are there
Intracompany STO-----movement of materials from one plant to another plant in a single company code
Both the plants will be in same company code So there wont be any commercial billing
Intercompany STO-----movement of materials from one plant to another plantof diffrent company codes
Both the plants will belong to different company codes. So there will be commercial billing
STO is basically a purchase order

Raja
