Hi,
Been going some of the documentation on Adapter Engine. I read that Adapter Mappings and Adapter Metadata are stored in the IR.
I've managed to find out that Adapter Metadata is used in the development of new adapters ( correct me if im wrong ). However, I'm unable to find out much about "Adapter Mappings". I've went to the IR but did not managed to find any object by the name of "Adapter Mappings".
Will appreciate if anyone can point me to the right direction and link with regards to information about Adapter Mappings. Thanks in advance.
Hello,
You will find adapter metadata in IR not adapter mappings.

Sreenivas.

I guess you are looking for message mapping, coz there is no such term used as adapter mapping.
Adapters: The task of an Adapter in SAP XI is to translate/convert the sender message format to XI message format i.e. xml or from xml to receiver message format e.g. text.
To know more about adapters go through this link.

Hi Sarvesh,
I saw the "Adapter Mapping" term in the following document
on Page 46.
Thanks.
Dear Jason,
There is no such thing as adapter mapping and what does exist is message mappings. The context in which the word adapter mapping is used in respect to adapter development where with adapter metadata you can define configuration data needed for a certain type of adapter at design time. The functions for creating and editing adapter metadata are intended for parties developing new adapters. They are not intended for general use.
The term used by SAP leading to ambiguity as found in many places in there documentation (my personal experience ) what they actually meant is that The Adapter Framework controls the exchange of synchronous and asynchronous XI messages and communicates with the Integration Server to do this. The adapters in the Adapter Framework convert XI messages to the protocols of connected external systems and the other way around. This mapping of between XI messages and protocols of external systems is referred to as adapter mapping. This is the best possible inference.
God bless

PS: dont forget to rwd with points.
Adapter Metadata is used in the development of new adapters ( correct me if im wrong ).
Yes, adapter metadata is used to format various adapter parameters.
There is no term called as Adapter Mapping. Where have you read this term?

Prateek
