Warehouse movement type in posting change notice

Hi! I created a transfer posting via MM (MB1B) using movement type 322 to move stock to quality inspection. A posting change is created but when I look at the details, it is registering WM movement type 321 instead of 322. I can see in LS26 that the particular batch material has stock category Q and on storage type 922 there is a positive value entry for stock category blank and a negative value entry for stock category Q.

My question is - is movement type 321 correct?

If I reverse the posting by creating a material document using movement type 321, the correct WH movement type 321 is also populated on the posting change document. So, I am puzzled.

Can someone clarify this?

Cheers!

Dear Friend,

It is irrespective of mvt type in Ware house when you do in IM 321 or 322 as for warehouse it is interim storgae type it counts. When you do 321 in IM, it is always 321 in WM as it posts document in

interim storgae type 922(Posting change area). And when you reverse the document that is 322, once again same interim storgae type 922 will e taken into consideration.

I hope it helps.

Thanks,

Ganesh

Hi,

That's correct! Because there are two different definitions of movement type in Inventory Management and Warehouse Management:

  • In Inventory Management, movement types play a central role as the instrument for controlling goods receipt, goods issue, and posting change activities. For every goods movement, you therefore have to specify a three-character key to identify the movement type that controls the movement. In the SAP ECC standard system, for example, the key 101 describes the movement type "goods receipt", either for a purchase order or a work order, and key 321 describes the movement type "QI to unrestricted stock". The movement type not only specifies the direction of the goods movement, it also decides on the update of the stock and consumption accounts and the screen layout of the transactions for the movement posting. Basic settings for batch management and shelf-life expiration data management are also made at movement type level.

  • Warehouse Management also has movement types which, similar to their counterparts in Inventory Management, control the process flow in the warehouse. In particular, Warehouse Management movement types influence the interim storage area to be used (the organizational bridge between Inventory Management and Warehouse Management). You link the movement types from Inventory Management to the Warehouse Management movement types in Customizing to ensure a technical connection between WM and IM. For example, if a goods receipt for a purchase order or work order is posted using Inventory Management movement type 101 to a storage location with Warehouse Management, the system determines the corresponding Warehouse Management movement type and, depending on the settings for the WM movement type, generates stock in a "goods receipt" interim storage area. As to key 321 and 322, system needn't two movement type for one stock transfer from QI to unrestricted stock in WM, so you saw only the WM movement type 321 used for IM MVT 321 and 322, that's the reason!

Hope can help you!

Good day
