While trying to launch a custom Developed Abap WD application from Portal EP7, a greyish screen

appears before launching the application?

Any clue?

That is because of CORBU theme. And is your webdynpro component is a faceless component?

Grey Screen. Is your custom WD application using the emptyView as the default view in the WINDOW.

It may be from it.

do you see any error message on the screen?

what happens if you run it in the separately.

go to SICF tcode and deactivate and activate the node for that application
