Hi,

The concept of Gross weight and net weight is like for example if I am selling 1 bottle of cough syrup then in that case the weight of the cough syrup alone is letu2019s say 100 gram and the weight of total bottle (bottle weight + syrup weight) is 115 gram in this case 115 gram becomes gross weight.

Now if you are further using the packaging feature of SAP and packing these bottles in a carton then at that time the gross weight will be sum of gross weight of all bottles plus the weight of carton will also get added to the gross weight of the total deliverable product.

I hope this explains the difference.

For example the coke is packed in three different pack

300ml bottle

300ml cans

100liter plastic contaier

In this case the net weight of the product (coke) changes every time we use different packing.

Further the bottles and cans are further packed in to the crates and plastic drums further packed in to pallets.

In this case how the gross weight and net weight effect to further data processing.

Hi Ashish

First of all in MMR maintain in Basic data 1 tab->click on additional tab and maintain alternative Base unit of measure

If the gross weight and net weight changes , then the discount and other things will change. and the freight charges will also change.

Hi there,

Net weight is the actual weight that you use to specify the weight of the material.

But the system can use the gross weight at a later stage, depending on what kind of capacity check you run, to check storage bin capacity for warehouse management purposes.

Like you said Gross weight is the total weight after packing.

Also you can distinguish this basing on unit of measure.

For eg pencil. Net weight of EA quantity of pencil is 10 gms. But delivery unit is PACK (were 1 PACK = 10 EA). In that case Gross weight can be 100 gms (10 X 10 gms).
