install 64bit

Hello ,

I have some questions about installing DI on a 64 bit platform.

Our system is comprised of 2 DI CIDB (standalone) on a 32 bit

platform.

I have a few questions:

1.If I add a new server on new machine 64 bit + DI 64 bit to our

system (sap 32 bit) will there be any conflicts?

2.Where can I download this version for sap SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE

47X110 64 bit?

Thanks,

Roy

No.

You have to make sure you use the same kernel patchlevels on all machines.

There are "two 64bits" for Windows, one for Itanium-2 processor and another for 64bit Xeon or AMD processors. Take care that you use the correct installation and kernel.

SAP refers to those in installation guides and DVD lables as

Itanium-2 = IA64

Xeon or AMD = x86_64 or x64

http://service.sap.com/installations

--> Entry by Application Group

--> SAP Application Components

--> SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE

--> SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE 47X110

--> Installation

--> Windows Server

--> <yourdatabase>

Hi Markus,

Thanks for your quick answer .

I have a few other questions :

what parameters do I need for the 64bit installation?

Is there anything else I need to implement?

Thanks,

Roy

What do you mean? Profile parameters?

> Is there anything else I need to implement?

You need of course a 64bit client for your database.

yes i mean profile parameters.

our database is sql 2000 sp4 32 bit on windows server 2003 64bit(standalone).

my question is do i need a 64 bit client or 32 bit client is ok for a DI on 64 bit install?

as I mentioned before, I am planning on adding a new server on a new machine.

Thanks a lot,

Roy

Why not update your SQL 2000 database to SQL 2003 64bit first?

Hi,

at the moment we are staying with SQL 2000 .

thanks

There exists no 64bit client for SQL Server 2000 and you can´t use an SQL Server 2003 client to connect to your SQL Server 2000 database.

So you will need to install a 32bit instance on a 64bit OS - which makes the 64bit almost meaningless..

let me try to be clearer.

you said that i can install DI 64bit on windows 64 bit with SQL client 32 bit ?

my second question is will i get some sort of memory advantage for this configuration?

thanks
