Notification in Workflow.

Former Member

Hi All,

As per my knowledge the Notify step in a workflow is used to send an Email notification to the user.

Can anybody tell me is there any other configuration required to enable the Email notification, except adding the SMTP server details in the mds.ini.

Mail Server= 10.208.36.39
Mail SMTP Timeout=1
Free Memory Partition Size MB=0

Right now, just making this changes in the mds.ini file and restarting the server, doesnot send an email to the user.

Thanks,

Priya.

Hi Priya,

For the Notify Step: In mds.ini file Only Server Name needs to be mentioned in MDS.ini file.

Server name = IP Address

1. Kindly make sure the file "mds.ini" available in the following path: "Program FilesSAP MDM 5.5Server"

2. In MDM Console check if you have mentioned the Email id of the user the notification is send to

3. Please check that the problem is not arising due to firewall

In addition you can refer the below for Notification in Workflow:

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The mail id for all the users are updated in the system correctly, even then my Notification email is not sent.

Is there any other was track, the issue. For example if there is a problem in the mail server, then there will be an error log in some report or so?

Any idea how to find these?

Thanks,

Priya.

Hi Priya,

I dont think this information would have been logged somewhere. You need to ask your basis guy about the proper Mail Server IP and check whether you can ping to that IP from the machine in which MDM Server is installed.

Hi Priya,

- Make sure from the network team that there are no firewall issues with the SMTP server you are using.

- Also Restart your MDM server after making the changes in the MDS.ini file and load again your repository.

The MDM notify step always send mail from the owner account as mentiond in your MDM console settings to the others users you want the mail to go to.

So if your Workflow owner is Admin then its like the mail is received from the Admins email address to all other users.

For this unrestricted flow of mails must be allowed form the smtp server you are using.

You can also check the Repository and Server level logs in MDM console if it logs any info on this.

Also recheck all your email configurations are correct in the MDS.ini file through the below link:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdm550/helpdata/en/43/e0615f82b40a2ee10000000a11466f/frameset.htm(MDS.in... settings-MDM Datamanager refguide>MDM Workflows>MDM Workflow engine>Notification)

Hope It Helped

Hi All,

Thanks for the information. I think there is some problem with SMTP server, so once it gets resolved, it should be ok.

Thanks,

Priya.

Hi Priya,

Setting the IP Address of mail server is the only setting required but in addtion you need to check whether the Email addresses have been maintained for the users in Users table. Also the workflow owner should have the email address defined because all the notifications will be send from Owner's email address.

If already done then verify the mail server's IP address.
